Double Session (10:30-12:20)

Amateur Radio (Ham) Licensing Class Mike & Lois Thayer (103 Resch—Limit 6) Earn your amateur radio license during Spectacular! Fast Track License class with exam on Friday. Books and materials provided.

Celebration & Worship Daniel Harmon & Emily Rose (104 & 105 Resch) Do you sing, dance, speak, lead, emcee, act, plan, pray, have a testimony, read, or anything else? We want YOU! This class is for everyone who has a desire to share their gift in a worship experience this week. We will be putting together each Morning Celebration as well as other worship experiences. See you there!

School of Rock! (179 Shaw) Jammers Unite! Do you play the guitar? What about drums? Keyboards? Bass? Do you like rock music? What about blues? Country? Want to play in a band with other Spec campers? If you answered yes to any of these questions, THIS is the class for YOU!

SPEC Presents: Me, My Selfie & I Todd Davison and Crew (Shaw Auditorium) Come be part of the cast and crew of this year’s show. The first day of class we’ll go over parts before auditions and talk through set design and lighting/sound needs.

Drawing Naomi Barlow (Drawing Studio Helene—Limit 25) Increase your drawing skills through direct instruction on drawing skills and specific exercises. Bring your own picture to draw or pick one from the provided pictures. Teacher instruction to complete a finished piece you can amaze your friends with!

Stone-Carving (3D) Carving Crew (Sculpture Studio Helene—Limit 15)
Carve alabaster stone into amazing 3D creations—large and small projects available. Extra instruction available in the afternoon if needed.

BEYOND High School: Everything You Need to Know About Getting into College GU Admissions (G04 Admin. Bldg) Come learn about the application process, careers and class selection, managing test scores and grade points, scholarships and financial aid, athletic eligibility, and a lot more!

Beginning Golf and Golf Tournament Kevin Brunner (Meet @ Quad Tent—Limit 15) SUN-WED Come learn and play golf for a few days, then join the tournament on Tuesday.

Disc Golf Adam Morrison & Zackeriath Johnson (Meet @ Quad Tent—Limit 50)
Join Adam (2012 Junior World Champion) and Zackeriath (member of Team Latitude 64) for this intro to Disc Golf. We’ll work on throwing techniques, rules of fair play and courtesy, and making new friends,

Movies and Media Emily Munter (218 Zimmermann) How do we see the stories of others and apply them to our daily lives? Come join this class as we use movies and other media to create peaceful, open discussions about social issues and other topics

SPEC Sports Clinic GU Coaches (Meet @ Gym Sports Desk—Limit 30) Looking for an opportunity to work on fundamentals, get in extra practice, and get expertise from a university head coach? Each day we’ll offer a different sport so choose one or more that interest you. All skill levels welcome!

Acrylic Painting Greg Schieszer (Painting Studio Helene— Limit 25) Enjoy the experience of teacher instructed painting to produce a picture reflecting the Spec theme: Story. Independent painting option, with teacher guidance.

Ceramics Ceramics Team (Ceramics Studio Helene—Limit 20)
Practice new skills with experienced teachers! Beginners and experts, make pottery while stretching your skills with a challenging project. Wet clay time ends on Tuesday so projects can be completed. Come by in the afternoon or evening for more personalized instruction and Raku firing events.

Chime In Delores Dorland (Student Gallery Helene—Limit 15) SUN-TUES only. Make a Joyful Noise-Construct wind chimes from colored glass.

Counted Cross-stitch Thea and Randy Shelton (Walker Lounge South—Limit 12)
Stitch patterns from Christmas to birds to samplers. You will get a kit that has everything you need to complete your pattern and display your finished product.

Fairy Gardens Delores Dorland (Student Gallery Helene—Limit 10) WED only. Create your own miniature garden to take home.

Free Listening Movement Benjamin Mathes (Quad Lawn) MON-THURS. Join Urban Confessional founder, Benjamin, in open discussion about this incredible movement that is sweeping the planet. Learn listening skills that you can model and share in your community.

Flower-arranging Ruth LaHue (Helene Print Studio—Limit 20) Learn the art of preparing flowers and arranging them with a professional florist to assist you. Projects will be featured in the Tues and Thurs evening worship.

Gadets Hip Hop Amanda Stephens (151 Shaw Movement/Dance Room—Limit 30)
This class is open to anyone that wants to have fun and learn a Hip Hop dance. All level of dancers welcome, guys and girls!

Glass Fusion Donna & Megan Fletcher (E101 Helene—Limit 15)
It’s HOT! You could make a glass pendant necklace, earrings, magnet, or a small medallion for wall or mirror.

Hula – Wanna Dance Again? Trudi Gunderson and Kumu Hula Kahealani Drollet (Shaw Lobby) Learn basic Hula steps, Hula protocol, ancient and modern Hula, have fun dancing with campers from around the world.

Joshua Project Sandi Boyd (Walker Lounge North) You can participate in a service project using looms to knit hats for newborns in local hospitals. Enjoy visiting with friends while you complete a hat in 2-3 hours.

Pyrography Lynda & Alan Roberson (Tent on the Quad—Limit 36) Originally created using steel tools over a charcoal fire, today’s pryography is created with the precision of hot, electric pens. Most projects take three days to finish so plan accordingly. (ONE project/person)

SPEC Book Club: Graphic Novels! Julie Clinefelter (TBD) Graphic novels, comic book, manga. If these words make you happy, this is the class for you! Whether you like to read, write, or draw them come join us as we discuss our favorites, the worst of the worst, and just what all the fuss is about.

SPECial Guests Stassi Cramm & Guests (Heritage Chapel) Bishop Cramm will host this session with different guests each day. Come for open discussion and Q&A with Stassi and our SPECial guests.

Spec’s Kitchen Chef Tito (S. Americas Room – MSC—Limit 30) Join Chef Tito as he teaches the fundamentals and the secrets associated with being a good cook. There will be food and of course, FUN!

Stamping Class Deborah Adams (Art Gallery Helene—Limit 15) –Not only can you stamp on paper, we’ll be stamping on wood, leather, canvas, dominoes, and cigar boxes. We’ll be making a small picture journal.

Sun Prints Delores Dorland (Student Gallery Helene) THURS only. Using light sensitive paint, cotton cloth, and select objects, make a design that will reveal itself when placed in a sunny spot to dry.

The Ring’s the Thing Janelle Varvaro (E101 Helene—Limit 15) Create a unique ring for yourself using copper wire and glass beads. Limit one class session per person.

The Storytellers Barb Walden & Karen Norton (TBD) Class starts Monday. Love a good story? Hear fascinating stories from Community of Christ church history that continue to speak to us today. Come ready to hear a good tale and to share a few tales of your own.

Thinking Globally – Acting Globally and Locally Max Pitt, Mariah Mann, Klair Cross, Karl Bradford (Quad Lawn) Learn and take action about global income inequality, responsible charitable efforts, water supply/quality, the roots of poverty, the need for gender equality, the issues of population growth/hunger, and the need for education. Learn how to join GU students to act locally.

What’s the Buzz Delores Dorland (Student Gallery Helene) We aren’t talking about the latest news flash–Come to class and learn how to use wooden objects, create a design, and create your own buzz.

Yoga Amy Black (Amphitheatre) Come stretch, build strength, play around with fun poses, and learn a little about meditation and breathwork. Each day we will explore different themes/styles and end with relaxation time to unwind and destress. Campers and staff welcome!

Zumba Erv Bernard (MSC Mainroom) Join this aerobic fitness class featuring movements inspired by Latin dance styles and music. Bring a friend and get your sweat on!

Let’s Sing Harmony The Sacrys (Cheville Chapel) Join us for a fun-filled class focusing on various styles of acapella singing. Through vocals and rhythm, experience the harmony we create by working together. Come ready to share–your voice!

#GirlStrong Ginelle Sakima Roberts, Kara Vojcsik (106 Resch—GIRLS ONLY) A class about how to be a strong woman and how to bravely be that at home, at school, at camp, on a team, and in the world.

Improv Fun Steve Hensley (JR Theater—Limit 20) Anyone can participate! This is a great class if you are looking to have fun with your friends, have ever wanted to try improv, or you just want to laugh really hard until milk comes out of your nose! Come and see what we are all about!

International Fun w/World Service Corps Emily Penrose McLaughlin (S. Tess Morgan Lounge) Travel to the places where WSC volunteers have served and explored through games, art, food, music, and more from around the world!

Residing in the Rhythm Tyler Horringa (Library View Room) What music do you most resonate with? Is it possible to find the Divine in the music you love? Come to class willing to both share music that is deeply important to your heart while also intentionally listening to meaningful songs chosen by your peers.

Women Empowered Kery Nelms (MSC Main—Limit 25. GIRLS ONLY) Building confidence in yourself, learning to defend.No previous martial arts experience needed.

Calling All Angels Larry & Sharon Norris (N. Americas Room – MSC) You could save a life! Personal experience and a DVD will be used to teach the signs of depression and helpful skills for preventing suicide. Single class held Sun, Tues, Thurs.

Drop-In Drawing Naomi Barlow (Drawing Studio Helene—Limit 25) This session is for drop-in drawing with teacher instruction to improve pencil skills through some directed exercises.

Jiu-Jitsu Kery Nelms & Becca Madden (Fitz Fitness Center—Limit 25) Come learn the basics for protection, health, and self-confidence. No experience needed.

Spectacular Improv Steve Hensley (JR Theater—Limit 8) You will be learning Improv methods and games used by a variety of major improve theatres! This ensemble team will have the opportunity to perform in front of a crowd Wednesday night. Come check it out!

Stone-Carving (2D) Carving Crew (Sculpture Studio Helene—Limit 20)
Sand and polish your stone, draw and trace your design on a flat piece of alabaster, then engrave your final 2D masterpiece. Extra instruction available in the afternoon if needed.
